Today is time for another of my poems. Hope you enjoy it. Smiles, Sharon
THE ROCKING CHAIR
They have moved my things.
The house is bare.
All that is left is my old chair.
My dear old friend throughout the years.
We've seen it all through smiles and tears.
In Winter's chill in blanket warm,
beside the fire, safe from harm
I rocked content to watch the flame
flicker in Love's eyes as he called my name.
I hear the echo of Irish lullabies
as they hushed our little babies' cries.
And I rocked smoothly to and fro
in this old rocker years ago.
In times past when trouble knocked
at our door, I sat and rocked
to think more clearly and answers find.
I rocked to give me peace of mind.
As the events in time the TV told,
I rocked and watched history unfold.
Through triumphs and tradegies
I rocked and drank my cup of tea.
And when the angels came to call
and death cast his shadow on the wall,
I left my friend just sitting there.
Alone it stands, my rocking chair.
Estate sale over. It all is sold.
Even my rocker, still strong but old.
I see a young woman big with child.
As her husband pays for it, I see her smile.
Good-bye old friend, you're in good hands
as another lifetime you begin to span.
Hold them close in your wooden arms.
May they feel safe in you from all Life's harms.
