I love to feature poetry here on my blog. Today I am posting a poem that I got out of the Cosmopolitan Magazine, Oct. 1996 issue. The poet is Maria Ercilla. I googled her name today to see if she every published a book of poetry and found that she has just won 4th place in the annual writing competition for Writer's Digest Magazine. She is also published in Latino Soul. She has other books including, "Where Rosaries Ride the Wind", "Oysters and Zarzuelas", and her newest book, "Thirteen Miracles and Counting". Her poem here today is very erotic but the imagery is amazing. Enjoy, Sharona
EGYPTIAN SANDS
His stomach, flat and sweet,
is the color of Egyptian sand.
Small freckles lie across it
like lazy dragonflies bathing in the sun.
It is his belly button
which takes my breath away.
Rising and falling
like a soft melody floating from a saxophone
through the night into my pillow,
I long to touch it...
kiss it...
but fear my lips will tickle him awake.
Trembling, I hover above his inverted pyramid
my breath hot,
then plunge deep...
tongue, heart, and soul.
